 BRODAS

Brodas

  1. Where Once You Laid Your Hat
  2. You Love You Live
  3. No Hay Marcha Atras

Brodas is a Spanish band from Arganda del Rey near Madrid. Influenced by "Brit-Pop", these 5 guys do a very good Pop-Rock with Spanish taste.
In life Dali, Antonio, Pablo, David and Carlos are friends, in live Brodas are "brothers".
In its desert of Pop-rock Spain has found a new Oasis of freshness...

Interview with Dali, singer of Brodas :

S: When and how was Brodas born ?

D: Brodas was born in 2000, with two college friends who had an illusion : having a band and chase a dream…these guys were Carlos (drums) and me…time has passed, and other musicians in the band too, but we’re still chasing our dream together and since 2 years we are five…"five friends", and it’s really great cause we’re like a family that fight to survive through all, and that dream has become into an "ideal" to keep, and we’re very proud of this.

S: Who are the persons behind the name of Brodas ?

D: Behind the name of Brodas are five guys that love to play together: Carlos Espelta (drums), David G.Abejas (guitars), Pablo Rojo (keyboards), Antonio Esquina (bass) and Dali (voice and acoustic guitar).

S: Where is the name of the band coming from ?

D: Uff...jee…sometimes we talk about it…and we can’t remember when the name was born…and we don’t know to explain what really means…but we all know that means a lot for us.

S: What are the positive and negative sides of being a musician in Spain ?

D:
Well, the positive things of being a musician is Spain are the weather and the food…, I’m joking… we have a great culture of music here, and it is something good for us because we’ve grown up feeling the importance of music in life. And the negative things…maybe the bad moment that the music business is living here, so the companies don’t give a chance to new artists like us…so we feel a little bit impotents for this.

S: How many gigs have you ever done ?

D:
With this project. Maybe 30, because we completed the formation of the band maybe two years ago, or even less.

S: Do you feel anxious before a show ?

D: Sure, I think all musicians feel anxious before a show, you have a responsibility with your public, so you have to feel a little bit nervous for giving them what they expect from you.

S: How and when did all begin with music ?

D: With a guitar in my hands at 15 years old….then started to make songs, looking for people to form a band, looking for a local to practice….till today….uff…more than 10 years.

S: Do you remember what was the first Cd you bought ?

D:
I think, "The Joshua Tree" of U2.

U2 - The Joshua Tree

S: Do you think the emotion is different between a song in English and Spanish ?

D: Well, now that we make English and Spanish versions of some of our songs, I can say that the emotion is similar because we feel the same energy playing both, but our language is Spanish, so it’s easier for us to express our emotions in Spanish, we feel Spanish’s words closer.

S: Aside Celtas Cortos, The Sunday Drivers and Underwater Tea Party I don't know many spanish bands, can you tell us some names of bands we have to discover ?

D: Not really…Maybe a band called Brodas….I’ve heard they are really good…(laughs)...No, we are not too much into Spanish bands because they are more Latin’s bands not in our style…but for example "Second", makes Britt sound too, and a few years ago a band called "Heroes del Silencio" that made a good rock and were very famous…and I think they are together again for a tour after 11 years.

S: How could you define the music of Brodas ?

D: Mmm…Is difficult to catalogue our music, we are a pop-rock band with Britt influences, but we’re are Spanish so we can’t say that we are a  "Britt-pop" band, and I think we have some American sound in our songs too, so I prefer to say that Brodas sounds like Brodas.

S: When you write a song you follow your heart, your brain or your hand ?

D: Sometimes heart, sometimes brain and sometimes just the hand...but is difficult to explain how a song born, it’s like a feeling that I have to vomit…it’s damaging me till I transform it in a song…maybe it is a therapy.

S: What is your favourite song of Brodas and why ?

D:
Ohh…difficult question it is like if you ask a father who is his favourite son…, all have something special to us, but maybe "No hay marcha atrás", because of it our producer Marko Katier decided to work with us and it was a big step….and the meaning of the song too…you know, is like there’s no turning back in this trip.

S: As a musician, what's your feeling about Internet ?

D: Internet has positive and negative things…you see, you can discover us by internet…and it is really great because we have the chance to show our music to all the world, but has a negative thing: nobody buys albums, I’m not agree with downloading music for free, and like I told you before, music companies don’t give a chance to sign with them…they loose money, they don’t want to have more risks…but no matter, it has to change soon, we think so…and we’re very patient.

S: Are you venturesome person ?

D: Yes…I think music world is a big adventure…don’t you think??

S: Where would you like to play in the future, is there a place in the world you would love to visit ?

D: Yes, a lot of places…we always dream with a tour around the world…

S: Are there any things which you are afraid of? Do you have any fears ?

D: Mmm…yes, I’m afraid about waking up one day and don’t have a dream to chase…"yo vivo de sueños.."…

S: As my website is dedicated to the Manic Street Preachers, maybe can you say some words about them, if you know them ?

D: Yeah..sure...they are a really good band…I’m not too much into Manics now, but I’ve always liked their style and James D. Bradfield has a really good voice.

S: I know it's a difficult question, but if you would have to keep just one album from your Cd collection what album would it be ?

D: Just one??…I can’t say one…

S: What was the last song you listened to before the interview? And if you know, which one will be the next?

D: "Invincible" of the last album of Muse…and the next, who knows….something of Queen I have to prepare one song of them for a show.

S: Can you say something in French ?

D: Wi…jeee…and voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir?...

S: What are your plans for the nearest future ?

D: Well, we are recording in this moment English versions of our songs with the help of our producer Marko Katier, and we want to make a video soon too…but our big plan is to sign with a company!!

S: And finally, what's the most important thing in life for you ?

D: Health and happiness...

MANY thanks to Dali and Brodas for the interview!
Thanks to their producer Marko Katier too.
